The Persephone Project is a collaboratively created theater piece specifically exploring the myth of Persephone as well as its roots and relevance to the timeless collective journey from girlhood to womanhood. In SIX SEEDS, Persephone finds herself in group therapy, surrounded by survivors of kidnapping or rape, and, for the first time tells her own story, in her own words. Is she the first Stockholm syndrome case, innocent victim, or a Lolita who loves her new life as wife and Queen of the Underworld? It is simultaneously a contemporary retelling of the myth of Persephone, an exploration of the origins of the myth and a consideration if how this myth continues to inform the feminine collective unconscious, perpetuating itself from antiquity to present day.
