June 9-10th – Tree Army: The CCC Project
FIGMENT on Governor’s Island
A performance piece exploring the lives of the young men who were employed by The Civilian Conservation Corps between 1933 – 1942, performed on Governor’s Island, the actual location of the Second Corps Area Head Quarters of the CCC. Combining historical CCC documents, articles, personal letters and journals from the young men involved in what was known as “Roosevelt’s Tree Army,” TREE ARMY explores what it meant to rebuild a country. Through recreating some of the stories of the 2.5 million men who served, the piece will recreate a little of the enthusiasm, camaraderie and discipline that was Tree Army life.
